The Wedding Present to Release 8th Album ‘Valentina’ in March

Wednesday, 18 January 2012 Written by Rob Sleigh

Leeds-based indie rockers The Wedding Present have announced the release of their long-awaited eighth album ‘Valentina’, which is due out on 19th March. It is their first offering since 2008’s ‘El Rey’. The band have also confirmed that the album will be preceded by a free download of their new single ‘You Jane’ later this month.

The Wedding Present recently revealed that they will be appearing at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, where they will be performing a special album launch show for ‘Valentina’. The band will then follow the performance by taking the new album on tour around North America, Australia, Japan and Europe. It has also been announced that the band will be playing their classic third album, 1991’s ‘Seamonsters’, in its entirety as part of the shows. The band are due to bring the tour to the UK and Ireland in the autumn.

The Wedding Present released their debut album ‘George Best’ in 1987 and have since had 18 Top 40 singles in the UK. David Gedge has fronted the band since 1985, except between 1998 and 2005 when he was focusing on his other band Cinerama.

The new album ‘Valentina’ was recorded in France, California and Brighton and was mixed by Andrew Scheps, who has previously worked with Metallica, Iggy Pop and Johnny Cash.
