Queen With American Idol Winner Adam Lambert Set For Summer Tour & Sonisphere

The news that will leave hundreds of thousands of rock fans licking their lips has been unveiled this morning – as it’s been reported that legendary rockers Queen will be embarking on a new tour this summer, with American Idol singer Adam Lambert as their frontman. And, if the Daily Star is to believed, there’ll be a slot at Knebworth’s Sonisphere Festival too...

ImageLambert has already performed with the band and left them more than impressed when he sang with them at the MTV European Music Awards, where he belted out tracks including ‘We are the Champions’ and ‘The Show Must Go On’. Now, the new look band are set to take on a number of other venues and events – possibly including iconic metal festival Sonisphere.

“The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some fucking great songs,” Lambert told The Daily Star. “It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.

“After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of backlash from people saying: 'You can't replace Freddie Mercury.' But I already knew that. There's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That's impossible. The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honour and one I'm in no way going to shirk.”

He went on to confess that although there’d be no plans to release any new material, it would ‘cool to record with Brian and Roger.’

Nothing official has been said by Sonisphere organisers as of yet, and no tour dates have surfaced or been announced, but if you believe the Daily Star, then you’re apparently set to see Queen at the event in July.
