Sony Music Apologise For 'Mistakenly' Hiking Whitney Houston Album Prices

Sony Music has made a public apology after ‘mistakenly’ hiking the prices of Whitney Houston albums the day after she died of a suspected drug overdose.

The cost of Houston’s compilation album ‘The Ultimate Collection’ rose from £4.99 to £7.99, whilst another compilation, Houston’s ‘Greatest Hits’ album, increased from £7.99 to £9.99 in the iTunes store. While Apple was immediately blamed for the move, Sony Music have since taken the blame – and told the public that it was a mistake.

A statement from the company read: “Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the UK iTunes store on Sunday. When discovered, the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologise for any offence caused.”

According the New York Times, Sony Music have also claimed that it was just a single employee in Britain who made the error – and that they gave ‘no order’ to up the prices of the albums.

Still, regardless of the price-rise, Houston is expected to top a host of album and single charts across the world, including the UK and the US.

Earlier today, Tommy Chong claimed that Houston would still be alive had she ‘stuck to pot’ rather than taking other, harder drugs like crack cocaine.
