British and Irish boyband The Wanted have become the first ever UK-based boyband to land a hit in the top 3 of a US chart, after their hit ‘Glad You Came’ soarded to #2 in the American iTunes charts.
The track, which also managed to hit #1 in the American iTunes pop charts, has become a massive hit in the states for the boys, and has helped them achieve a new record in a year wear British boybands seem to making an impact on the US music scene – with One Direction apparently eclipsing Big Time Rush as they support the American group on a their US tour.
They’ve also become the first British boyband to top the Canadian iTunes charts, and the first to feature in the top 10 of the US AirPlay charts too. The landmarks precede an appearance on hit US show Jay Leno, where they’ll be performing in March, as well as appearances on the Ellen Show, Chelsea Lately, and at MTV’s Spring Break Las Vegas.
“It's absolutely fantastic to see all the boys' hard work paying off, not just within the UK but now also internationally,” said Ashley Tabor, the man who helped form the group. “There's lots more to do, but to think that they started by performing schools tours around the UK only 2 years ago, and today have a Top 3 hit in the US and a No1 in Canada, tells you why I'm so delighted for them, British music and the whole Wanted team.”
