Fathom Audio, a collection of drum and bass’ sweetest MCs and most-talented producers, have announced that they’ll be releasing their new single ‘Promises’/’Ridges’ on 3rd September.
The group, consisting of beatmakers Billion and Fybe and MC’s Codebreaker and Sense, have been working hard in the studio and, despite each member’s own individual projects, they've put together two rather dark and different pieces - apt for a release coming out on Hunchbak and Dexta’s Diffrent label.
Both tracks are an experimental slice of half-time drum and bass (if you’re into breakcore-style jungle or jump-up dnb, this isn’t for you!) that gives an atmospheric vibe from start to finish. The A-side, ‘Promises’, harnesses a classic pre-00s dnb groove that will take older listeners back to the simpler, less ‘power-jump-tribe’ times. It’s flip, ‘Ridges’, features a similar yet more melodic style, combining soothing synth lines, headnod-inducing percussion, and some nicely-fitting vocal samples for a aurally pleasing couple of minutes.
The release is a considerably strange and experimental release from the foursome, but also an interesting and well-crafted one too. You can check out previews of the tracks below, while you can check Diffrent Recordings out on the Surus website here.
