M.I.A Postpones Release Of New Album 'Matangi'

The singer-rapper has decided to postpone the release of her follow-up to previous album 2010’s “Maya” in order to head to India and “add more stuff to it”. M.I.A described her new album on Twitter as sounding like Paul Simon ‘on acid’, allowing fans to ask her 10 questions on the new album prior to its release date.

The album will be released in conjunction with a book, film and exhibition, providing a result of the “blows” she’s experienced in the industry over the past three years. The aim is to serve, in the artists own words, a “fuck you to them and thank you to you [her fans]”.

The new album was born while M.I.A was working on an “architectural piece” and presenting new artwork at India’s first biennial. M.I.A’s book showcased on October 23rd and unveils an array of technicolour career relics and creations after years of touring. On the sound of the album, M.I.A said "It's not 'I want to be trendy'. I just want to make music that makes sense”. She also added that there would be no collaborations on the record and that the producers would be “ones that don’t act like fame whore coloniser”.

When asked how many tracks would feature on the new album, the artist said, “its still in the making - could be five it could be fifteen depends on what sounds good in my bros car”.

As M.I.A to work on her the release of her new album in India, her fans will eagerly be awaiting the delivery of “Matangi”.
