'I F*cking Hate Mumford And Sons', Says Frightened Rabbit Star Scott Hutchinson

Scottish indie-folk Frightened Rabbit have hit out at fellow folk stars Mumford and Sons, with frontman Scott Hutchinson telling an interview that he ‘fucking hates that band’.

The band are currently gearing up for the release of their fourth album ‘Pedestrian Verse’ and were compared in an interview with Spin to the likes of The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons. Although many bands would love to be mentioned in the same name as the world-beating band, Scott Hutchinson and Frightened Rabbit seemed less than impressed.

Obviously incensed but remaining cool, Hutchinson told the interviewer: “Melodically, there are things we have in common with those bands, but I'm not sure we have embraced the entire aesthetic of Mumford and Sons. The things we share are a life-affirming aspect in spite of darker lyrical content, and the music comes alive at shows and stuff, but I hope that the new record pulls us away from that world. It's a slightly frustrating comparison because I don't hate those bands but I don't aspire to be like them in any way.”

After the interviewer revealed that he actually prefers Frightened Rabbit to Mumford and Sons, Hutchinson then began a much less polite tirade against them, and said: “I was trying to be very diplomatic but I fucking hate that band and don't want to be associated with them. I thought the first record did something that I appreciated, but with the second they were just shoveling the same shit. And that's one of the reasons we're trying to separate ourselves, because it's a huge insult to someone who's invested in the band to give them more of the same.”

What do you think of Hutchinson’s comments? Valid, or is he simply trying to cause a stir? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
