Google Launches New Music Streaming Service To Rival Spotify

Thursday, 08 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Google has launched its brand new music streaming service, Google Play Music All Access.

Set to rival Spotify, the new service was unveiled back in May and was launched in the UK on August 8. The service has already been made available in the US, as well as Australia and New Zealand, while it has also been launched in France, Portugal, Spain and Ireland. You can get a 30 day trial now.

Also competing with the likes of Deezer, Rdio, and Xbox Music, Google's service differs in that it doesn't have a free-to-use version, although it costs £2 less than its closest and biggest rival at £7.99 if you sign up before September 15. Usually, it has a £9.99 flat rate - the same as Spotify.

Available on smartphones and tablets as well as on laptops and desktops, users have access to a special 'All Access Vault' with offers tracks from major and independent labels as well as up to 20,000 tracks from their own digital music collection.

Speaking via a press release, Paul Joyce - Google Play Music's product manager - said:

"With today's launch, Google Play moves one step closer to your ultimate digital entertainment destination, where you can find, enjoy and share your favourite apps, games, books, movies, magazines, TV shows and music on your Android phone or tablet."
