The Stooges Drummer Scott Asheton Dies Age 64

Monday, 17 March 2014 Written by Elliott Batte

Scott Asheton, founding member and drummer of punk group Iggy and The Stooges, has died aged 64.

Asheton co-founded The Stooges alongside iconic frontman Iggy Pop in 1967, and has remained with the band throughout their years together.

Breaking the news of his passing, which has been reported to have been caused by illness, his close pal Iggy Pop posted via Facebook:

“My dear friend Scott Asheton passed away last night. Scott was a great artist, I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton’s have always been and continue to be a second family to me.”

Scott's death, the cause of which has yet to be confirmed, follows the passing of his brother Ron, who died of a heart attack in early 2009.
