New Michael Jackson Album 'XSCAPE' Expected In May

Monday, 31 March 2014 Written by Huw Baines

'XSCAPE', a new album of Michael Jackson songs, will be released by Epic Records on May 13.

The eight song release has been formulated by the label and the late pop superstar's estate and will feature production work from, among others, Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Jerome 'Jroc' Harmon, John McClain and Stargate.

L.A Reid, chairman of Epic and the record's executive producer, was granted access to the Jackson archives, where he sought out completed vocal takes before enlisting producers to “contemporize” them. He said:

“Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world. Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.”

John Branca and McClain, co-executors of the Jackson estate, added:

“Michael was always on the cutting edge and was constantly reaching out to new producers, looking for new sounds. He was always relevant and current. These tracks, in many ways, capture that spirit. We thank L.A. Reid for his vision.”

A deluxe edition of the album will feature Jackson's original takes. Pre-orders begin on April 1.
