Spotify Tops 10 Million Paying Users

Thursday, 22 May 2014 Written by Huw Baines

Spotify has topped 10 million paying subscribers, another notable milestone for the controversial streaming service.

Additionally, the company has confirmed that they now have 40 million users across 56 markets, with the Guardian noting that the stat is up from six million paying users and 24 million active in March 2013.

Daniel Ek, the company’s founder and CEO, said:

“We’ve had an amazing year, growing from 20 markets to 56 as people from around the world embrace streaming music. Ten million subscribers is an important milestone for both Spotify and the entire music industry. We’re widening our lead in the digital music space and will continue to focus on getting everyone in the world to listen to more music.”

Eminem (pictured), who will play two shows at Wembley Stadium this summer, has been announced as the artist with the most streams to his name, while Avicii’s Wake Me Up is Spotify’s most popular song. Spotify has a number of rivals, including Dr. Dre and Trent Reznor’s US-based Beats service, a recent high-profile target for Apple, Rdio, Deezer, Sony Music Unlimited and a number of others.

Eminem Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows:

Fri July 11 2014 - LONDON Wembley Stadium
Sat July 12 2014 - LONDON Wembley Stadium
