Representatives for the Swedish EDM star, real name Tim Bergling, announced the news in a statement to Billboard, confirming that he was found dead in Muscat, Oman on Friday afternoon local time.
“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given,” his publicist Diana Baron said.
Avicii released two studio records and a long list of successful singles before retiring from touring in 2016. He continued to make music, putting out the 'Avīci (01)' EP the following year.
