Depeche Mode Frontman Dave Gahan And Soulsavers Announce New Collaborative Album 'Imposter'

Tuesday, 05 October 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Dave Gahan and Soulsavers have announced a new joint album, 'Imposter'.

The LP finds the Depeche Mode frontman and Rich Machin reworking 12 handpicked songs written by a variety of artists, with a release slated for November 12 via Columbia Records. It was recorded live as a 10-member band at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California in late 2019.

Led by a reimagined version of Cat Power's Metal Heart—the first single, out this Friday (October 8)—the record also includes covers of songs by Neil Young, PJ Harvey, Gene Clark, Bob Dylan, and Mark Lanegan. Check out the full song list below. Gahan said:

"When I listen to other people’s voices and songs—more importantly the way they sing them and interpret the words—I feel at home. I identify with it. It comforts me more than anything else. There’s not one performer on the record who I haven’t been moved by."

He added: "I know we made something special, and I hope other people feel that and it takes them on a little kind of trip—especially people who love music and have for years."

Produced by Gahan and Machin, the LP serves as the duo's third together, following 2015's 'Angels & Ghosts' and its predecessor, 2012's 'The Light The Dead See'.
