To celebrate the 21st Anniversary of the release of their 1989 HUP album, The Wonder Stuff have announced a week of shows that will go ahead later this year in April.

Hailing from the West Midlands, the band gained a significant following during the late 1980s with the release of two critically acclaimed albums, ‘The Eight Legged Groove Machine’ and ‘Hup’. The group broke into the mainstream when chart success followed the release of their third album ‘Never Loved Elvis’ in 1991. The album spawned chart hits and jukebox favourites ‘The Size of a Cow’ and ‘Dizzy’, which was performed with comedian Vic Reeves.

The Wonder Stuff went their separate ways in 1994 but after a seven-year break they reformed and continue to play their old classics, along with new material.

Now fresh from their headline slot performing on the ‘Avalon Stage’ at 2009’s Glastonbury Festival, The Wonder Stuff are back to perform their 80’s classic album ‘Hup’ in its entiety and in it's originally intended order. The performances are said to also feature some of the extra tracks that appeared on single releases during this era along with a selection of their tracks recorded by the group during their twenty-four year career.

I doubt that the mosh pit of twenty years ago will be quite the same this time around, but as many of the audience are now probably approaching their late thirties, the doc martins have mostly likely been traded for a nice glass of Rioja!

The Wonder Stuff will play the following dates:

April 2010

16th O2 Academy Oxford
17th O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, London
18th O2 Academy Bristol
25th O2 Academy Bournemouth
