Oren Moverman To Direct Cobain Biopic

Oren Moverman, the writer-director of Oscar nominated The Messenger, has begun talks with Universal/Working Title in regards to directing an as yet untitled Kurt Cobain biopic.

Coming as both exciting news to some and a grimace inducing prospect to others, David Benioff has adapted Charles R. Cross’ controversial book, ‘Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography Of Kurt Cobain’ into a working screenplay.

When Cross’s biography was published it underwent heavy critisism from many who perceived the book to be full of half-truths and emotional bias. This combined with Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow, being pencilled in as executive producer for the biopic, its going to be difficult to imagine this film without any inconsistencies.

Biopics are known to be a difficult job to pull off and when your dealing with the tragic death of one of the 20th century’s most influential voices in music, its never going to be an easy task.

Since Cobain’s death, there have been no official films. Gus Van Sant’s muddled 'Last Days' was a rough reference to the singers life but it was a poor offering. Here’s hoping Moverman does a better job of things!
