Chris Voss is a businessman, author, and former FBI hostage negotiator from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Having served as the FBI's lead international kidnapping negotiator from 2003 to 2007, he handled over 150 high-stakes cases worldwide after being trained by the FBI, Scotland Yard and Harvard Law School. He went on to receive the Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement and the FBI Agents Association Award for Distinguished and Exemplary Service and, in 2008, founded The Black Swan Group: a consulting firm that applies negotiation techniques to business and personal situations. Voss is also an adjunct professor at Harvard Law School, Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, and a lecturer at the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business, and co-authored the bestselling book Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It, which has been translated into multiple languages and is widely regarded as a definitive guide on negotiation.
