The Strokes To Release New Album In March 2011

New York indie icons The Strokes have spoken out about their new material, which they say will be released in March 2011.

Retuning to the UK this summer with two stunning festival performances at Rockness and Isle Of Wight, The Strokes trawled deep through their back catalogue to play two greatest hits sets at both of the weekend events.

Leaving fans anticipating the release of some new material, The Strokes have claimed to be working on a new album for some time now. Speaking to BBC 6Music, singer Julian Casablancas recently reinforced the claim stating that the band are still aiming to deliver a new album.

"We've wanted to do it for months, or maybe a year now, and then we keep thinking 'OK, we'll do it for like these three weeks and we'll be done'. Then we do it and we decide we're not done, or something comes in the way."

Recently trying his hand at going solo, Julian Casablancas has been touring the release of ‘Phrazes For The Young’, his debut solo album. Talking of the differences between The Strokes sound and his new solo material, the singer kept tight-lipped on what he prefers.

"That is a tough question because if I say this (my solo band) then I'd probably be hurting people in The Strokes' feelings, so I'm not gonna say that" he explained. "I can't answer. I'm sorry. I want to, but I can't. Does it matter with people if I said that?"

"I hate it when bands break up and never play again. I'm kind of split two ways now," he commented. "I feel like my new (solo) thing is in more ways like The Strokes' old thing was. And the new Strokes thing is something that I hope works and I hope everyone loves and makes everyone happy."

Continuing, Casablancas commented that he is focusing on finishing The Strokes new album. "The first thing is The Strokes thing. Like I said I'm kind of split now, I'll do other things," he explained. Good to hear that the new album is still his top priority.
