Jason Bonham: 'Led Zeppelin Were Real Close To Reforming'

According to Jason Bonham, the son of legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones were “real close” to a tour under the name of Led Zeppelin, without iconic frontman Robert Plant.

Following Led Zeppelin’s famous one-off reunion show at London’s O2 Arena in December 2007, both Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were ready to hit the road once again, apart from singer Robert Plant, who wanted to focus on his solo career.

Talking to MusicRadar, Jason Bonham revealed that himself, Page and Jones had been working hard on new material ready for a new tour following their triumphant O2 reunion show, however a disagreement between Page and Jones shortly after halted any further plans to take to the road.

"I think basically, they agreed to disagree," Bonham said. "After a while, it was just time to move on. We did a year of writing and putting stuff together. I loved working with Jimmy and John Paul. It was so much fun."

At the time, rumours were circulating that singer for Alterbridge Myles Kennedy, who is currently working alongside guitar legend Slash, was first in line to replace Robert Plant on vocals. However Bonham squashed such rumours and refused to be drawn into discussing whom the replacement was going to be.

"Somebody else was involved -- and that's all I'll say," he said. "But as I said, I loved the time we had together. I can't even explain it, it was just great."

Meanwhile Jason Bonham is currently in the planning stages of a 30-date Led Zeppelin tribute tour. More details as we hear them!
