Fresh from their performance at last weekend’s UK Sonisphere festival, Finnish group Apocalyptica – perhaps the only band to headbang whilst playing cello - have announced a three-date tour of the UK for November.
Filed under the category of ‘bands you need to see to be believed’, Apocalyptica have smashed through the boundaries of classical music to create some thundering metal tracks through cello and drums. That’s right, you heard, cello and drums.
Don’t let their choice of instruments fool you though. Having picked-up a pile of awards throughout their career, the band has released six albums to date with their seventh offering hitting the shelves later this month on August 23rd. Notching up sales of three million albums across the world, Apocalyptica remain a humble, reserved group who never shy away from talking about their enjoyment of classical music and love of bands such as Metallica, Black Sabbath and Pantera.
Currently lining up as a four piece, the group consists of three talented cellists and a human rhythm machine, otherwise known as a drummer. Their energetic live shows have been described as a metal journey through space and time with the addition of some roaring thrash that even Slayer would be proud of.
Announcing a tour in support of forthcoming new album ‘7th Symphony’, Apocalyptica will hit the road early this November for a three-date UK jaunt with shows in London, Glasgow and Wolverhampton.
