Union Jackals are set to release their debut double A side single 'I Am The Sun / Press Reset' via Mapped Out Recordings on the 18th October. 'I Am The Sun' is a blissed out track with elements of escapism and happiness while 'Press Reset' is definitely the more rousing of the two tracks and sees the boys with their foot pressed firmly on the pedal.
The tracks are taken from the bands debut album 'Universal Screenplay' which was created over eight months in a scatter of locations, from bedrooms, annexes, converted stables and corridors. The band are already beginning work on a full visualisation of the album via www.universalscreenplay.com. A mammoth, never-done-before task, where up and coming film and video directors create a visualisation of a track from the album. In the spirit of how the album was made, directors are armed only with their skills, ideas, cunning and a non existent budget. Once the project is complete, the album will be made available as a DVD/CD special packaged limited edition. The first fruits of the project will accompany the single release in October.
Union Jackals are a litter of three from London Town. Initially conceived via a dream involving other world abduction, the Jackals are a tactile outfit revolving around the core of Carl Mann, Paul Reeves and Stephen Barnes.
Despite the tight triumvirate at the centre of the Jackals, the band's ethos is one of inclusion, bringing in musical and visual contributions from those who have crossed their paths, minds or hearts. They were dubbed Union Jackals after this inclusive nature and an obsession with the canine beasts with a sixth sense to scavenge the good and the fresh from the myriad of rotten.
This is aptly reflected in their debut album, the quasi-conceptual Universal Screenplay, a rousing, rumbling and at time soothing musical tome, blending psych rock, post punk, shoe gaze guitars, electronic meanderings, prog styling and a sprinkle of sci-fi into a classic guitar pop structure.
