George Michael Jailed For Eight Weeks

Singer George Michael has been jailed for eight weeks having pleaded guilty of driving while under the influence of cannabis.

Last summer the 47-year-old crashed his Range Rover into a London shop whilst driving home during the early hours of July 4th. Smashing into the front of a Snappy Snaps store, George Michael, real name Georgios Panayiotou, was found slumped against the steering wheel of the vehicle and appeared to be “spaced out” before acknowledging that he had been smoking marijuana and taking a prescription sedative.

After pleading guilty last month to driving under the influence and possession of drugs, Michael was sentenced earlier today at London's Highbury Corner Magistrates Court where the star received a £1,250 fine as well as being ordered to serve eight weeks behind bars. He is likely to serve half the time before being considered for parole.

This is the latest misadventure George Michael has gotten into, following a string of automotive and drug-related incidents. On two occasions in 2006 the former Wham! star was found slumped against the wheel of his car, once at London's busy Hyde Park Corner in February and then again in October where he was found asleep over the wheel of his car as it blocked an intersection. Following those incidents Michael was sentenced to community service having pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs.

George Michael gained super-stardom during his early 20s as half of the pop sensation Wham!
