Will Butler, guitarist and percussion player for the hugely successful rock band Arcade Fire, will give a keynote address at his old university.
The multi-instrumentalist is set to address the Northestern University in Chicago, Illinois in early November. The musician graduated from the institution in 2005. He will be giving the keynote address at the Civically Engaged Young Alumni Week, an event which encourages students to become proactive about their political and environmental motivations.
Butler is set to be discussing the challenges of “blending his music career with social activism”, according to the university website. A representative from the university has indicated that an impromptu performance from Butler would be possible on the evening, but nothing is planned as of yet.
Will Butler majored in poetry and creative writing while at Northwestern University, and served as editor and contributor to the campus literary magazine, Helic. Butler also spent his time as a radio DJ for the student station, WNUR.
Arcade Fire released their third studio album, ‘The Suburbs’ last month. The record was received extremely well, reaching number One in the UK, US and Canadian album charts. The band recently released ‘Ready To Start’ as the second single from the album, featuring a dramatic black and white live promotional video:

Dec 2nd - London O2 Arena
Dec 5th - Dublin O2 Arena
