Justin Bieber And Chris Martin Get Oscar Nods For ‘Best Song’

Tuesday, 21 December 2010 Written by James Conlon

Teen sensation Justin Bieber and Coldplay’s Chris Martin are among a list of musicians given an early nod for the 2011 Oscars. Both singers were included in this year’s longlist for the ‘Best Original Song’ category, meaning that they will be eligible for selection in the final Oscar nominations on January 25th next year.

Bieber has been given recognition for his song ‘Never Say Never’, which featured in this summer’s Hollywood film The Karate Kid. It is one of forty-one songs which have been selected for the longlist. Other notable entries include Avril Lavigne with ‘Alice’ from Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, Janet Jackson’s ‘Nothing’ from Why Did I Get Married Too and John Legend’s ‘Shine’ from Waiting For Superman.

Chris Martin is in contention with ‘Me and Tennessee’, a song which he wrote for his wife Gwyneth Paltrow to sing in the film Country Strong. Paltrow has also been listed for her role in another song from the film, ‘Coming Home’.

The songs will be slimmed down into a shortlist of no more than five entries as the nominations are announced next January. The Oscars are set to take place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on February 27th next year.
