Rihanna And Katy Perry Furious Over ‘Managed Anorexia’ Twitter Campaign

Wednesday, 12 January 2011 Written by James Conlon

Pop goliaths Rihanna and Katy Perry have gone online to attack a former Big Brother contestant over his endorsement of a “managed anorexia” pill. Kenneth Tong, a member of the 2009 UK Big Brother house claimed to be launching a pill able to help women achieve a size zero figure.

In a series of distasteful tweets, the ex-contestant declared that women should be more aware of their body image, urging females to "Use your self-hate as a catalyst to get thin, or die trying." However, both Rihanna and Katy Perry were keen to criticise the comments, pointing out the ignorance of such superficial thinking. Rihanna was quick to criticise Tong, tweeting: "Girls are dying all over the world because of ignorant individuals like this.” Perry then retweeted the Barbadian singers message, before adding “Preach!”.

However, Tong spoke up yesterday in an extended message posted from Twitter, declaring that the comments had been an attention-grabbing hoax brought about through a bet with a friend. He wrote: “I think it is time for to come clean. The whole size zero thing is a hoax. It came about after an interesting discussion I had with a friend of mine. The discussion centered round whether it was possible, to go from nowhere to be a globally recognized figure within a week harnessing the power of the internet and specifically Twitter, which I have always maintained is a better medium than national TV.”

The Z-list celebrity then went on to announce that he would be pledging money towards Beat, a charity aimed at combating eating disorders, especially amongst teenagers.
