Academic Debate Set To Analyse Take That’s Comeback

Thursday, 13 January 2011 Written by James Conlon

Take That’s recent reunion with Robbie Williams is set to become the topic of an academic debate, it has been revealed. The University of Salford has scheduled a two-day conference, focusing on the boyband’s meteoric comeback late last year.

The event will also analyse the band’s original split in 1996, as well as comparing them to the career paths of seminal British acts such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The University invite prompted students and academic staff to come and “discuss key issues arising from this contemporary popular music phenomenon”. The conference will take place in June, coinciding with Take That’s mammoth UK stadium tour.

Meanwhile, Gary Barlow is set to perform at a special event to mark his 40th birthday in London next week. The one-off show, dubbed ‘GB40’ will take place at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on January 20th.
The show is intended as a special celebration for fans, friends and family of the singer, celebrating songs from his extensive singing career. In addition, the evening will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2. All profits from the event will be going to charity.

The Take That singer will also be making a special appearance on the BBC 2 breakfast show with Chris Evans the morning before the gig (January 19th). Speaking about the event, radio host Chris Evans said: “Gary is a star, a musical genius and a gentleman and we can’t wait to help him celebrate this milestone birthday on the Radio 2 Breakfast show.”
