Michael Jackson's Doctor Set to Stand Trial

Michael Jackson’s doctor has been told to stand trial over a charge of involuntary manslaughter, it has been revealed. A judge has ordered Dr. Conrad Murray to attend a compulsory hearing to determine if he was responsible for the pop star’s fatal drug overdose in 2009.

After six days of a preliminary hearing Judge Michael Pastor gave the order, determining that enough evidence exists to potentially hold Dr. Murray accountable for the singer’s death. Dr. Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Murray had been hired to assist the singer as he prepared for an extensive run of comeback shows, and confessed to supplying the singer with propofol, a drug usually used under hospital conditions. It has emerged since Jackson’s death in June 2009 that he was using the drug as an aid for sleep.

Prosecutors in the preliminary hearing suggested that Dr. Murray could be criticised of negligence in providing Jackson with the strong drug. They continued to assert that the doctor’s actions on the day of Jackson’s death suggest that Murray knew he was to blame. They highlighted the fact that Murray directed Jackson’s security assistants to hide any evidence of propofol after initially coming to the singer’s aid.

Dr. Murray’s lawyers have been quick to refute many of the claims, stating that the doctor was in the process of weaning Jackson off of the drug. They also hinted that some of the prosecution’s key witnesses gave unreliable testimony.
