British alternative rockers Coldplay are lining up for a stitch in the film industry, after helping fund a new British film which stars Jim Sturgess, Ray Winstone and Lesley Manville.
The film, titled Ashes, is said to be a thriller and is directed by the band’s friend Mat Whitecross, who met the Coldplay boys in University. He has previously directed Coldplay videos, including Violet Hill, Lovers in Japan and their most recent single Christmas Lights.
He has also directed the film ‘Sex Drugs and Rock n Roll’, and a number of documentaries including ‘Moving to Mars’.
Chris Martin and co. are all set to be executive producers in the film too, for their Hollywood debut – all in the same year as their expected release of their fifth album, and their first appearance at Glastonbury for six years.
Coincidentally, singer Martin’s wife Gwyneth Paltrow has recently swapped her acting with singing for a role in Glee, which saw her hit the charts and receive an Oscar nomination – imagine the competition there must be between the two!
