Gwen Stafani Donates $1 Million To Japan Relief

No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani donated $1 million last night to Save The Children’s Japanese earthquake-tsunami relief fund. The ‘Children in Emergency’ fund is designed to help the relief and recovery effort all across the country, focusing in particular on areas where children have been most at risk or hard-hit.

The singer gave an official statement yesterday, declaring her love and respect for the Pacific country. She said: "I've been inspired by Japan for many years and have a true love, appreciation and respect for the Japanese people and their culture. The disaster in Japan is beyond heartbreaking and I want to do anything I can to help. I would never be able to make a gesture like this without the love and support of all the fans over all these years."

In addition to the donation, Stefani has also established an online collection through her band’s website, nodoubt.com. The singer has offered a limited edition of a ‘Harajuku Lovers’ T-shirt which she designed to fans on the site, with all proceeds being donated to the relief effort. Stefani has also offered her time up for an auction, where fans can bid to join her for an evening at a special fundraising event in Los Angeles.

Stefani is the latest in a string of musicians to dig deep in helping Japan. Lady Gaga launched a wristband campaign after offering her own donation to the Japanese Red Cross, while Welsh rockers Feeder announced yesterday that they will be releasing a single in aid of a relief fund after the natural disaster.
