Mary Anne Hobbs to Return to Radio for New Xfm Show

Former Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs is to return to radio for a new weekly show on Xfm, which begins on 9th July. According to her website, Hobbs’s primetime Saturday evening show will feature “UK funky, minimal techno, deep house, hip hop, electronica, grime, neo-folk and art house rock... no holds barred.” After fourteen years with Radio 1, Hobbs parted ways with the BBC station in 2010 to concentrate on live DJing.
After starting out as a music journalist with Sounds Magazine and NME, Mary Anne Hobbs actually began her radio career at Xfm during the 90s. She later moved to Radio 1, with whom she broadcast a number of influential programmes. Most notable of these was The Breezeblock, which aired from 1997 until it was renamed to Experimental in 2006. The show mixed a number of different genres, including rock, hip-hop and drum’n’bass. Hobbs has also been credited for introducing dubstep to a wider audience through her radio DJing.
Recently, Hobbs worked with director Darren Aronofsky to help source music for the soundtrack to his film ‘Black Swan’.
