It’s been 8 long years since 2003’s ‘Mescalero’ but ZZ Top have said they are “working hard” on their long awaited 15th studio album with Billy Gibbons saying they are in “full production”.
Speaking to Billboard, the trio’s vocalist and guitarist Gibbons says they have been splitting time between his studio in LA and Houston. “It kind of takes the load off to be able to leave Texas, go to California, stay there for a while and then you get to leave California and come back to Texas."
It’s also no surprise to hear that they won’t be abandoning their over 40 year old blues rock style which has become as synonymous with the band as their trademark beards saying that, along with drummer Frank Beard and bassist Dusty Hill, they are "still just making a lot of loud noise.” Gibbons continued, “We still pose as interpreters of the blues. We can't invent it; It's already been invented. But we can do it our way."
Going on to discuss the make up of the album, Gibbons also revealed there may be a few covers included. This co-incides with reports that a ZZ Top tribute album is also in the works.
So far it has been revealed that the likes of Foo Fighters, Nickelback and Kid Rock will provide tracks for the album although no title or release date has been confirmed yet.
