English rock outfit The Blue Aeroplanes are set to release their latest album – leading to a lot of questions about the formatting...
And those questions would sound something like this:
Who releases an album on vinyl only these days? Download only, sure. Download with a vinyl option - pretty cool, and very much du jour for many an indie band.
But vinyl only? Particularly when it's already being described as the band in question's best in an illustrious career of pop/art/rock/folk/poetry/dance/mayhem?
Reborn Bristolian art stars The Blue Aeroplanes, that's who. The band's tenth studio album, 'Anti-Gravity' will be released in June on a strictly limited 12" gatefold vinyl edition. And frontman Gerard Langley, still spitting out miracles after more than two and a half decades at the controls of this most enduring of cult institutions, makes no apologies:
"Downloads? Boring. Easy, cheap, functional, disposable, used-to-be-youth-orientated, practical and, hey, cheap. If not free.
Well, you can get all that later. For now, this is it. A new album. In a specific order, with its own 12"-size artwork included FREE. And no radiation."
The Blue Aeroplanes are also hitting the road, playing two shows in Bristol and London, for which you can see the dates below. ‘Anti-Gravity’ will hit record stores on June 20th.
The Fleece, Bristol - May 20th
The Relentless Garage, London - June 7th.
