Arctic Monkeys’ ‘Suck It And See’ Censored By US Retailers

Friday, 03 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

Arctic Monkeys' latest studio album 'Suck It And See' has been certified as "too rude" by various American retailers, meaning that the LP will be released with a sticker over the title.

While this may not normally be a problem for artists, the band have made a bold choice of a minimalist album sleeve with simply the album’s name in a standard font. This may mean that certain fans will not be able to recognise the release on shop shelves.

Speaking to XFM, Arctic Monkeys confirmed that a number of major US supermarkets had vetoed the album for standard release, claiming that the title was “rude and disrespectful”.

Speaking about the American reaction to ‘Suck It And See’, singer Alex Turner said: "They think it is rude, disrespectful and they're putting a sticker over it in America in certain stores, big ones."

Turner also went on to assert that the band had hoped to create the live sound which was the foundation for so much of their hugely-successful debut 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.

Claiming that the band approached their fourth studio album with the same ethos as their first, Turner said: "The first one obviously was done pretty much like that [live] because we'd been playing it around before we recorded it. That was something we wanted to try and do again."

‘Suck It And See’ will be released officially in the UK next Monday (June 6th).
