Lady Gaga “Left Bankrupt” After Monster Ball Tour

Friday, 03 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

Lady Gaga has claimed that she was left bankrupt after her ‘Monster Ball’ world tour. The eccentric singer has stated that she was left $3 million in debt after spending the tour’s profits on continual revamps to her live shows as she tried to please her audiences with more inventive routines and stage arrangements.

The ‘Born This Way’ singer began the world tour in 2009 on the back of her hugely successful album ‘The Fame Monster’, however despite the immense commercial success of the album, Gaga was left in debt after continually revamping the live shows to impress the huge audiences which she performed to on a nightly basis.

Speaking to The Financial Times, Gaga said: “I put everything in the show, and I actually went bankrupt after the first extension of The Monster Ball."

She continued: “And it was funny because I didn’t know! And I remember I called everybody and said, “Why is everyone saying I have no money? This is ridiculous, I have five number one singles – and they said, ‘Well, you’re three million dollars in debt.’”

Gaga, who currently sits on top of the UK albums chart after knocking Adele from the Number One position, went on to claim that despite her immense success she is not in the music industry purely for the money.

She said: “It’s honestly true that money means nothing to me. The only big things I’ve purchased are my dad’s heart valve and a Rolls-Royce for my parents, for their anniversary. And that was only because my dad had a Lady Gaga licence plate on our old car and it was making me crazy because he was getting followed everywhere, so I bought him a new car.”
