Arctic Monkeys Earn UK Number One with ‘Suck It And See’

Monday, 13 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

Arctic Monkeys have earned the top spot in the UK albums chart with their fourth studio album, ‘Suck It And See’. The band, who played two large shows in their hometown of Sheffield over the weekend, managed to knock Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ from the Number One position to gain their fourth Number One LP.

The album was one of four new entries in the top ten – Jackie Evancho earned Number Four with ‘Dream With Me’, the Glee cast came in at Number Six with ‘Glee The Music Volume 6’ and Wonderland reached the Number Eight position with their self-titled debut album, which earned a rave review from Stereoboard’s Sophie Monk.

In the UK singles chart Example earned his first ever Number One with 'Changed The Way You Kissed Me'. The British rapper managed to hold off competition from Coldplay, who reached Number Six with 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' and Paramore, who earned the Number 21 spot with their Transformers soundtrack entry ‘Monster’.

Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts reached the Number 27 position with her debut solo effort ‘Beat Of My Drum’, which faltered slightly after strong midweek sales figures.
