Global corporation Microsoft has denied reports that it would be creating a music entertainment service following stories in the press earlier this week claiming that it would combine with Zune to allow music streaming.
The proposed music application was said to be revealed by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at an event on Monday, but claims from Xbox and Microsoft have said that no such program is being designed. Instead, the company released a statement confirming what projects they would be working on, and denying any imminent music streaming service.
The statement read: “Reports that Microsoft is launching a new music service on Xbox this fall are inaccurate,” read the statement. “A recent demonstration of upcoming Xbox features showcased what we will deliver later this fall on Xbox, including voice search with Bing on Xbox to locate and access entertainment content on the console. This includes Zune music which has a catalogue of more than 11 million tracks.”
Currently it looks like Microsoft will actually only be updating their current partnership with Zune, by adding in a voice recognition service through its kinect controller. More details will surface on the Xbox updates in the near future.
