Blacklisters - Swords (Single Review)

If you like noisy music then Blacklisters might become your new favourite band. These West Yorkshiremen cite influences as early Deftones, Shellac and The Jesus Lizard. They sound a lot like these bands mixed into a cocktail of unholy sonic destruction. 'Swords' is a typical Blacklisters track...except it’s available for free download from their Bandcamp page, which is pretty awesome.

Image'Swords' is great. It sounds a bit like a wolf turning up to your house and trying to tear your door of its hinges whilst occasionally turning round to scare off passing sheep with a wide stretch open of its mouth and a baring of glimmering, sharp teeth. The vocals are totally deranged, deranged enough to arouse suspicion that they are coming from a man who is totally insane. The guitars are serrated edges that could probably cut through all your furniture in a matter of seconds while the bass would then churn up all the little pieces and grind them into a rather nasty mushy paste. The drums may give you a headache because they sound like they are being played on top of (or maybe even inside) your head...and they are being played furiously, with what sounds like genuine anger.

'Swords' is a delicious slice of British noise, about as good as you can find.
