'Michael Forever' Tribute Concert Causes Family Controversy

As Stereoboard previously reported, a huge Michael Jackson tribute gig will be making its way to the Welsh capital for a massive celebration of the King of Pop’s life. But, regardless of the fact that this one-off show looks likely to be biggest send-off for any artist in musical history, will ‘Michael Forever’ end up tearing the Jackson family apart?

The Millennium Stadium will hold the once in a life time this October 8th, and will feature an array of huge stars and some of the talents that MJ himself loved – the gig has been described as one that “will not be repeated”. Promoter Global Live Events wrote “This is an exciting moment for Michael Jackson fans from around the world.” The proposed event has even won the support of the late Michael’s mother – she is hugely excited and admitted: “When I was told some of the names of the artists performing I knew it would be fit for a king. If my son was here today he would feel the same way. I will be there along with as many members of my family that can make it. It is intended to be the biggest and best concert in the world for many years to come.”

So it is a surprise that Michael’s close brothers Jermaine and Randy Jackson have condemned the huge tribute show, with the pair slamming it in a LA press conference yesterday.

“Today’s press conference in Los Angeles announced a tribute concert to Michael to be attended and supported by the Jackson family. However, we want to make clear that this does not reflect the position of the entire family.

“While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honours our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death. In light of this, we feel it is inappropriate to be involved with such an ill-timed event and its promoter, Global Live.”

The concert seems a simple attempt to commemorate a legendary singer’s career and also make money for charity (‘Michael Forever’ will support many charities MJ himself supported, including Aids Project Los Angeles), so the controversies and conflicts that have come from it are a surprise and in all honesty, a bit confusing. Perhaps the concert could be rescheduled, or the brothers could just accept that the show is all in good nature – either way, the Millennium Stadium is going to witness one of the biggest pop shows the planet has ever seen (and possibly will ever see).

The gig will take place on October 8th later this year, and it is set to be broadcast in over 30 countries worldwide, with 2D or 3D playback. No acts have been announced yet, but expect HUGE names - Stereoboard will keep you up-to-date.
