Tennessee-based rockers Kings of Leon have discovered that their great ancestors were born in Wales before moving to the states – and they couldn’t be happier about it.
Bassist Jared Followill posted through Twitter yesterday telling fans that him, his two brothers, Caleb and Nathan, and their cousin Matthew had finally back traced their family tree – revealing that their ancestors lived in Wales until around 300 years ago.
“Finally found out where Followills came from,” Jared wrote. “It was originally Followell and we came to Virginia from Wales in the 1700s. I’m Welsh. Cool.”
The messages were greeted by hundreds of congratulatory messages – and also a few (probably English) jokers.
“Jeeze. Tell you I'm Welsh & everyone calls me a 'sheep shagger'. Guess that explains why I count sheep at night & wake up with a boner.”
Jared even attempted to speak some Welsh after he was sent a message by one well-wisher – and got it spot on. Saying “Diolch yn fawr. Falch o fod yma”, which translates to “Thank you very much, I’m proud to be here.”
Along with their fans, we hope it could be an opportunity to bring the Kings of Leon to Cardiff for a homecoming gig!
