A lone man in Somerset is trying to set up his own massive festival for 2012 – as he attempts to fill the gap left by the absence of Glastonbury Festival next year.
The local businessman and promoter, named Kevin Newton, is trying to organise a one-off festival for sometime after the Olympics next year, and hopes he can secure the signature of a big headliner – which is all he requires to put on the festival, he says.
“I am speaking to music agents in London to find out which headline acts could be available,” claimed Newton. “If I can get a big enough headline act we will have a 'big weekend 2012' in the Mendip area.”
No details or line-up plans have been revealed yet – except that Reconnected, a Manchester-based boy-band, would most likely perform, as Newton is their manager.
What do you think of the idea – can one man replace Glastonbury for a single year? Or is Glastonbury simply irreplaceable? Let us know in the comment section below.
