Ex-Weezer Bassist Mikey Welsh Dies After Predicting Own Death

Ex-Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh died of a suspected drug overdose on the weekend – after he predicted his own death on Twitter.

The musician, who starred on some of Weezer’s greatest hits like ’Hash Pipe‘ and ‘Photograph’, posted on his Twitter on September 26th “dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today.” He then followed it up with a tweet saying “@JVittitow correction - the weekend after next”. Then, on the same weekend he predicted, he was found dead aged 40 – with investigators believing a drug overdose to be the cause of death.

The announcement of his death came through one of his family members, who logged into his Twitter and Facebook to tell fans of the saddening news, writing: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Mikey Welsh passed away unexpectedly today. He will forever be remembered...” The message was greeted with thousands of well-wishing messages from fans and friends, as well as being re-tweeted countless times.

His band mates also posted a tribute to him through Twitter, writing: “We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear the awful news, our friend and fellow weez rocker @mikeywelsh71 has passed away. We love u Mikey.”
