Sonic Youth Pair Split Casting Doubts Over Bands Future

US rockers Sonic Youth may not have a future together after their founding members Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon separated, following their 27 year marriage.
The band have been going strong for the past thirty years, releasing sixteen albums since their 1981 eponymous debut, with the band’s togetherness reinforced by the fact that the lead vocalists and guitarists had been married. But, after their split, is there any way the band can carry on despite their differences?
The band have plans to tour South America next month which will go ahead, but their plans following that scheduled tour are very much in doubt – and it looks likely that there’ll be a break from live shows at the very least.
A statement from the band’s website says: “Plans beyond that (November) tour are uncertain. The couple has requested respect for their personal privacy and does not wish to issue further comment.”
Gordon and Moore, who are 58 and 53 respectively, formed the iconic band back in 1981. They then went on to marry in 1984, before having a child who is now 17.
