Fans Have Rubin To Thank For Sabbath Reunion

After Friday’s announcement that Black Sabbath would be getting together for a new album, a world tour and a headline appearance at next year’s Download Festival, fans would be thanking goodness, God, and their lucky stars for bringing some of the best news in rock history. But it turns out that it’s Rick Rubin they should be thanking – after he apparently forced the Sabbath reunion into existence.

The band had been deliberating and speculating a much-wanted comeback for years, and made appearances back in 2005 only for the four to go their separate ways again. Sometimes the story would be that Ozzy wasn’t up for a reunion, sometimes the story was that was up for it. But, in a press conference, they admitted that Rubin was the main factor and was on the phone to them “every five minutes.”

“I’ve known Rick for many years,” Osbourne told press. “He wanted to do it a long time ago.” Iommi added “He phoned us every five minutes!”

Rubin himself is clearly excited at the recording prospects for the new album, which is their first for 33 years, and said: “We’ve been working on developing material and we’re half-way into the writing process. It’s inspiring hearing what’s coming out.”
