ATP Make Typically Diverse & Stunning First Announcement For 'I’ll Be Your Mirror 2012'

Monday, 14 November 2011 Written by Ben Bland

Few festivals in the world are truly, truly diverse. Even Glastonbury, for many considered the Holy Grail of the British festival with its willingness to allow everything from hip-hop to indie and bizarre strands of world music, has a noticeable dislike for booking much in the way of heavy music. For ATP there are clearly no boundaries, as last year’s excellent 'I’ll be Your Mirror' festival at Alexandra Palace proved. There simply is nowhere else you could realistically expect to see Portishead, Swans, Company Flow and Godspeed You! Black Emperor sharing the same stage.

However, that does not mean that the first announcement for the 2012 Alexandra Palace event has not taken almost everyone by surprise. Alongside part-curators and ATP regulars Mogwai there is the exhilarating prospect of sets by Guided by Voices and Codeine as well as the rumbling aural pain of stoner doom legends Sleep and the band that arguably started sludge and grunge, the legendary Melvins. Mudhoney, one of the most underrated grunge bands, will also be appearing on Saturday and Yuck will show that the UK is still providing plenty of quality music right now on the Sunday. Oh and there is the small matter of Slayer (pictured) playing their classic 'Reign in Blood' album in full to headline the Friday night. Yes, you read that right. ATP has booked arguably the most metal band on the planet as one of its headliners…pick that one out.

Tickets for this event of monstrous proportions are on sale now and the event itself takes place from the 25th to the 27th May at Alexandra Palace, a venue which ATP managed to give absolutely brilliant sound last year. More bands are obviously to be announced but frankly if this stunning first announcement has not roused your attention, there is something wrong.
