New York metallers Helmet will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their second album ‘Meantime’ next year with a European tour, culminating in a series of UK dates in April – see below for details. Tickets for the new dates are due to go onsale on Monday 5th December.
‘Meantime’ was originally released in 1992 and was the follow-up to Helmet’s debut ‘Strap It On’. The album included the singles ‘Give It’, ‘In the Meantime’ and ‘Unsung’ – watch the video below. Last year, Helmet released their seventh album ‘Seeing Eye Dog’.
Helmet were founded in 1989 by the band’s frontman Page Hamilton and released ‘Strap It On’ the following year. After a significant amount of international success with the albums ‘Meantime’ and its 1994 follow-up ‘Betty’, Helmet disbanded in 1998 at the end of a tour supporting their fourth album ‘Aftertaste’. Six years later, Hamilton reformed the band with a new line-up to release their fifth album ‘Size Matters’.
‘Meantime’ has remained the band’s most successful album to date, having been certified Gold in the US and selling two-million albums worldwide. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Meantime’, Helmet have scheduled an extensive European tour for 2012, which includes six dates in the UK next April.
