Michael Bublé "Killed" By Simon Cowell Eye Roll

Thursday, 01 December 2011 Written by Elliott Batte

Canadian singing icon Michael Bublé has admitted that during a 2007 performance on American Idol, he totally lost his confidence – after notoriously harsh judge Simon Cowell rolled his eyes at him.

Bublé said that shortly after he’d begun his performance, which was watched by over 20million viewers, he noticed Cowell rolling his eyes, and he was instantly shot of confidence. He then apparently turned into what he described as an ‘aloof’ mood – causing reporters to accuse of him being drunk on stage.

“I had to sing 'Call Me Irresponsible' in front of 20 million people, and the first thing I saw when I got on stage was Simon Cowell,” Bublé explained. “I sang about four lines and he looked at me and did this (rolls his eyes dismissively) and that was it, I was done. It killed me. My confidence dropped.”

He continued: “I get the attitude of, ‘Oh really? Well, fuck you.’ And if you watch the clip on YouTube, I’m so aloof I look bored. And it became quite a thing for me in America because all the news agencies started to report that I was drunk. But I’m such a control freak I would never drink before going on stage.”

Years after the incident, he told Dannii Minogue about it – who was sure that Cowell didn’t mean the gesture. After informing Cowell of what happen, he immediately told Dannii that he hadn’t even realised he had rolled his eyes – and they’ve been friends ever since.

“She goes and tells him, and comes back saying this: the man didn’t even know he did it. He was just probably sitting on his fifth hour of the show going, ‘Kill me now … and I’ve got to go to the bathroom.’ But I’m so sensitive I took it as a rejection. Anyway, every time I’ve ever talked to him since then he’s been incredibly nice.”
