Mark Stewart Releases New Track ‘Nothing is Sacred’ – Listen Now

Sunday, 04 December 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Solo artist Mark Stewart, originally of the late-70s Bristol post-punk band The Pop Group, has released new track ‘Nothing is Sacred’ as a free download on his website. A new video for the track can be watched below. ‘Nothing is Sacred’ is a collaboration with Eve Libertine from anarcho-punk band Crass, Stewart’s Pop Group bandmate Dan Catsis and German band Slope.

This news follows the recent announcement of Stewart’s forthcoming album, which is expected to be released sometime next year. The as-yet-untitled album will feature contributions from the likes of Primal Scream, reggae and dub legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Keith Levene (the original guitarist for The Clash and a founding member of John Lydon’s Public Image Limited), as well as punk legends Tessa Pollitt (The Slits), Gina Birch (The Raincoats) and Richard Hell.

‘Nothing is Sacred’ was recently released as a double A-side 7” single with Stewart’s interpretation of the T. Rex classic ‘Children of the Revolution’, which featured dancehall, grime and dubstep artist The Bug. Both tracks were taken from the recording sessions for his forthcoming album, although they will not be included on the record itself.

The Pop Group are a post-punk band that formed in Bristol in the late 70s. They are widely considered to be one of the groups that influenced the later Bristol sound that is heard in genres such as trip-hop and drum’n’bass. The band reformed last year for several live performances and also announced plans to record a new album. Mark Stewart has been cited as a major influence by the likes of Nick Cave, Alec Empire, Bobby Gillespie, Trent Reznor and Tricky.
