We Are Augustines Join QOTSA, Adele and Others on Amnesty International Album

Brooklyn-based indie-rock trio We Are Augustines have joined the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Adele, Elvis Costello, Maroon 5 and a host of other artists to record one of Bob Dylan’s songs for a new album honouring the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International. The four-disc collection entitled ‘Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan’ will feature 75 of the legendary singer’s songs.

‘Chimes of Freedom’ is due for release in the US on 24th January 2012 and is expected to be distributed internationally on 30th January 2012. Speaking about the release, We Are Augustines frontman Billy McCarthy said: “Over 80 artists were asked to cover a Bob Dylan song, many of them our heroes. We chose and recorded ‘Mama You've Been On My Mind’ in late summer. This is a huge deal to the band. Please join us in supporting Amnesty International and their tireless efforts for human rights around the world.”

Karen Scott, Amnesty International's Manager of Music Relations, said: “Bob Dylan's music endures because he so brilliantly captures our heartbreak, our joy, our frailty, our confusion, our courage and our struggles. His words convey a depth of meaning that few artists can equal, inspiring us and always moving ahead of our expectations. We at Amnesty International are deeply grateful to this legendary musician and to all of the artists who have contributed to this project."

We Are Augustines released their debut single ‘Book of James’ last month (see video below) and are due to release their album ‘Rise Ye Sunken Ships’ on 5th March 2012. The trio will be playing a FREE show at London’s Wheelbarrow venue in Camden on Tuesday 13th December before joining the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, The Maccabees and The Horrors at XFM’s Winter Wonderland in London O2 Academy Brixton the following day.

Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization that was founded in 1961 and has since built up more than three-million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries to campaign for human rights worldwide.
