Following their recent support slots on November’s tour with fellow Scandinavians Opeth, Swedish metallers Pain of Salvation have announced a number of headlining European dates for February 2012, including four shows in the UK. The new dates follow the release of the band’s eighth album ‘Road Salt Two’, the follow-up to their 2010 concept album ‘Road Salt One’.
Pain of Salvation were formed in 1991 from frontman Daniel Gildenlöw’s previous band Reality, which he founded at the age of 11. They released their debut album ‘Entropia’ in 1997. In addition to the band’s upcoming tour with Opeth, Pain of Salvation have also previously toured with US rockers Dream Theater.
Pain of Salvation recently announced that the band’s guitarist Johan Hallgren and keyboard player Fredrik Hermansson would both be leaving the group. Frontman Daniel Gildenlöw has since confirmed that one of the band’s original bass players Gustaf Hielm, a former member of fellow Swedes Meshuggah, would be re-joining the band, while their touring bass player Daniel Karlsson takes over on keyboards. The band are currently looking for a new guitar player.
Speaking about the recent Opeth tour, Gildenlöw said: “It's been a bit strange for us to play first slot, but we've had a lot of fun and the feedback from the crowds has been great every night. We seem to have struck a chord with a lot of Opeth's fans, so we are glad that we accepted their invitation. This trip has been odd since we all know that Johan and Fredrik are leaving the band. We are enjoying ourselves on stage in the same way a typical Swede enjoys those late fall days of bonus summer. That said, we have a very interesting line-up for February.”
