'90s It Girl Meets Tim Burton: Baddiecore Duo The Pretty Wild Discuss Their First UK Tour

It’s been a tumultuous four years for The Pretty Wild, but sisters Jyl and Jules Wylde are finally where they want to be. Starting out as a country-rock duo, they’ve evolved into riotous alt-metal Valkyries on their debut full length ‘Zero.Point.Genesis’, which revealed a whole world for listeners to lose themselves in upon its release at the end of 2025.
As they prepare to tour the UK and Europe for the first time — opening for Sleep Theory at shows in Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London this month — their ambition, hunger and gratitude is palpable.
When they speak to Stereoboard, Jyl dialling in from their hometown of Las Vegas, Jules from her car across the country in New York, they possess an uncanny connection. They finish each other’s sentences, they say the same things at the same time, they even laugh and sigh in unison — it’s as if you’re speaking to two halves of the same person, which may explain why their music is so potent.
For the uninitiated, how do you describe The Pretty Wild?
Jules: “At its core, our music is predominantly about empowerment. It’s also empowering for us to be able to create these songs, and it's cathartic in a way. But we describe it oftentimes as not really falling within a specific genre. We like to add in different classical elements. We write about things that are less conventional, like metaphysics and spirituality. So, you know, we're just your usual metal band.”
Jyl: “We were at Warped Tour, and an agent was like, ‘You guys are, like, ‘90s It Girl meets Tim Burton’.”
Jules: “Yeah, thank you, sir, we’re gonna take that from you.”
‘Zero.Point.Genesis’ is a far cry from your debut, ‘Xanax and Champagne’. What has that change been like for you? It has happened in a really short amount of time — Bettin’ On Us was the same year as this new sound started to come out.
Jules: “We did, ironically, get dropped after releasing a song called Bettin’ on Us. We can laugh about it now, but for a long time, we never would say dropped. It’d be creative differences, because we were having problems with being able to creatively explore all the different sonic realms we wanted to go into. But I’m very grateful for the whole process and for the whole journey, because we truly started making music for us and not for executives or people telling us what to write, or putting us in a room with somebody that they chose, you know? It was when we started making all the choices ourselves that things really started working, and when we fell back in love with music again. For a while, I wasn’t very happy, because I didn't feel like I was creating anything. I felt like somebody’s puppet.”
Jyl: “Something that I think was cool was that Jules was able to get back in touch with her instincts and build confidence through her writing, doing really well, and I was able to get in touch with my instincts through the martial arts and gymnastics. Then it was just about building up that confidence from a real, raw place, which meant we were able to trust ourselves more and be more experimental, and find that thing that was actually gonna truly connect.”
Have you got any particular favourite songs on the album, especially in terms of playing them live?
Jules: “We both really love Persephone, because it was written towards the end of the album’s journey. Priestess was actually the final song we wrote for it, but Persephone, we really just took it into this deeper place. It's more evolved writing for us. I’m just very glad that we were able to get such an honest track out like that, and I’m very excited to play that one live.”
Jyl: “I love the breakdown of Infrared. Also, God bless our drummer. Good luck, live, boy!”
Jules: “I also think Half Alive is a really cool direction; that wasn’t a single, but it is a different sonic direction and that is the one that I'm pushing to make a video for. It’s kind of Deftones-coded. I think we’re just excited about bringing some of them to life on the stage, and also video-wise.”
You're coming over to the UK and Europe. How are you feeling ahead of that tour?
Jules: “We’re so excited. I think it’s gonna be really incredible to be able to meet some of our fans outside of the US. We’ve gotten to tour locally here, but I think to be able to go overseas and share our music in all these other countries is truly a bucket list item for us. We’ve got some sick-ass festivals slated for later in the year, so I feel like we’re gonna get a lot of time abroad, so we’re really excited about that. Download's a huge one that we’re excited about, too.”
Jyl: “This is the first time I’ll have been to Europe. I’ve been dying to go. I wanna go everywhere. I want the food!”
Jules: “We're big foodies. We like to wolf down on all kinds of eccentric, weird food, so…”
It sounds like we're gonna be seeing a lot of The Pretty Wild this year, then.
Jules: “You will, yeah. We’re gonna be touring extensively for all of 2026. Our set times are going up, and we want to make sure we can deliver the best possible show to the fans, and make sure that it’s a show that they deserve to see, so we’re adding in more live instrumentation and we’re excited to unveil the new energy that we’re putting into it.”
Jyl: “Julia designs all the stage stuff, too, so she’s designing all the props, and everything is still really DIY, essentially, because that's just how we are, but it’s gonna be cool, you know?”
