US Punk Rockers The Menzingers Announce New Album ‘On The Impossible Past’

Saturday, 07 January 2012 Written by Rob Sleigh

US punk rock quartet The Menzingers have announced the release of their new album ‘On The Impossible Past’, which is due out on 20th February. The album is the band’s third to date following 2010’s ‘Chamberlain Waits’ and their first with renowned independent label Epitaph Records, to whom they signed last year.

The Menzingers were formed in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 2006 and released their debut album ‘A Lesson in the Abuse of Information Technology’ the following year. The band have previously toured with the likes of Anti Flag, Against Me! and The Gaslight Anthem.

Speaking about one of the songs on ‘On The Impossible Past’, Menzingers guitarist/vocalist Tom May said: “I think that ‘Gates’ is one of the most mature songs on the album. I hope it surprises people because it's not a straightforward punk song with gang vocals or anything like that, but it still definitely sounds like us.”

Going on to speak about the band’s music, he added: “I get a lot of personal emails that say something to the effect of ‘my girlfriend broke up with me or my dad died and I listen to your music and it makes me feel really good’ and that validates what we're doing and the time and effort we put into the new album. When people hear the songs from ‘On The Impossible Past’, I just hope people can relate to it and it makes them feel the way we do when we sing it.”
